PRODUCT GUIDE – ADHESIVES & SEALANTS
The range of Fortafix adhesives and sealants mainly comprise of two distinct types which largely define their performance benefits, limitation, and temperature thresholds. There is a fundamental temperature threshold (up to approx. 300-350°C) which governs the chemical stability of adhesives and potting compounds.
Silicone Based (organic i.e. carbon based)
For materials which operate successfully at a temperature below 350°C Fortafix have a wide range of ‘organic’ polymers available, which have many applications. Unfortunately, these materials will not withstand exposure above maximum of 350°C and undergo significant degradation above this point and not resistant to direct flame.
Silicones main properties are:
- Flexible – Elastomeric
- 100% Solid
- Fracture Tough
- Resistant to Water / Steam
- Adhere to many substrates (Organic and Inorganic)
- Temperature Limit of 350°C Max.
- Not resistant to flame.
The Fortafix Silicone range consists of:
Flexseal HT 300 – Continuous operating temperature of 300C – colour Black and ‘Food Safe’ White
Flexseal 350 – Highest operating temperature of any Silicone at 350C – colour Red.
Flexseal FR – Fire resistant silicone for use in conjunction with fire resistant construction. – colour Grey
Flexseal Bondflow 300 – Pourable Silicone for potting and coating to 300C – colour Black or White.
Flexseal Bondflow 350 – Pourable Silicone for potting and coating to 350C – colour Red.
Silicate Based (inorganic i.e. ceramic/glass based)
For materials which operate successfully at a temperature above 350°C – there are a range of reactive ‘inorganic’. Unfortunately, these materials are prone to some re-solution of water soluble components under immersion or exposure to steam.
Silicate main properties are:
- Rigid
- Resistant to chemicals / solvents
- Fire Resistant to Class A1
- Adheres to inorganic materials
- Temperature resistant up to 1600 (dependent on type)
- Not resistant to moisture
The Fortafix Silicate range consists of:
Fiborclad Range – Various viscosity adhesive/sealants for joining/sealing industrial insulation – up to 1000c
Autostic FC & FS – Highly Versatile adhesives/sealants for engineering applications – up to 1000C.
Autostic Adhesium Roll – A unique semi-permanent machine mounting compound.
Autostic Rocksett – High Temperature Thread lock to 750C.
Light/Med/Heavy Grade – Adhesives developed for electrical and temperature resistance.
Ceramix TC Caulking – Exceptional technical performing Adhesive/Sealant suited to many application to temperatures of 1250C.
Ceramix U529NH – Develop as a high temperature strain gauge adhesive cement to match specific thermal expansion.
